OUR FOOTPRINT
Mangrove planting at Kandrany, Madagascar
In Partnership with Eden Reforestation Projects & Ecologi
One of the most powerful places your tree is making a difference is in Kandrany, Madagascar.
Madagascar is home to some of the most unique wildlife and ecosystems on the planet. But due to deforestation and climate change, many of its forests — especially mangrove estuaries along the coast — have been lost. That means increased flooding, habitat loss for marine life, and less natural carbon storage in the environment.
That’s where mangrove restoration comes in. 🌿
We’re proud to support the Eden Reforestation Project, a nonprofit that hires local communities in Madagascar to restore the land by planting native mangrove trees. These trees aren’t just carbon sinks — they’re natural protectors. They help prevent coastal erosion, shield villages from storms, and support fish, crabs, and marine life that thrive in shallow coastal waters.
Our collective donations help fund:
- for locals to grow and plant mangrove propagules (baby trees!)
- to ensure they reach maturity
- thousands of hectares of coastal land that’s been stripped bare
So far, this effort has already led to millions of trees planted — with a long-term goal of restoring over 38 million trees on a 2,700-hectare site near Mahajanga in Northwest Madagascar. We're just one small part of that mission, but every Ali + Tings order helps plant another.
Why Mangroves?
Mangroves are blue carbon champions. Unlike typical trees, they store carbon deep in their underwater root systems — locking it away for centuries. This makes them one of the most effective natural tools we have in the fight against climate change. They're also resilient, beautiful, and native to Madagascar.
We started supporting this project in 2021, and we’re committed to helping it grow until at least 2031.
This is more than just tree planting — it’s community rebuilding, climate action, and coastal protection rolled into one.
Forest restoration in Kenya
In Partnership with Eden Reforestation Projects & Ecologi
With every order from Ali + Tings, you're helping regrow one of the world’s most vital ecosystems — the Mau Forest in Kenya.
Kenya is rich in culture and biodiversity, but like many regions across East Africa, it’s been hit hard by poverty, drought, and deforestation. Over the past several decades, large areas of forest have been cleared to make room for farming and charcoal production — stripping the land of its natural resources and making it harder for communities to access clean water, healthy soil, and long-term food security.
In the Mau Region, this deforestation has had ripple effects far beyond the trees themselves. Entire watersheds have been damaged, affecting rivers that feed into Lake Victoria and impacting millions of lives across Kenya and neighboring countries.
That’s why we’re proud to support reforestation efforts in this region through our partnership with Eden Reforestation Projects.
What We're Funding
Through your support, local villagers in Kenya are employed to:
- afromontane trees in shaded forest nurseries
- 5,700 hectares of community-owned land
- This “employ-to-plant” model creates long-term, stable income for families — allowing more access to education, food, clean water, and healthcare, while restoring the environment they rely on.
The goal? Over the next few years, this project will plant an estimated 14.25 million trees, reviving a once-thriving forest and helping reverse the effects of climate change in the region.
Why It Matters
Restoring forests in Kenya does more than just capture carbon (though it does that, too 🌍). These afromontane forests improve soil health, protect rivers, and rebuild ecosystems that support both people and wildlife. Every tree planted helps rebuild a more sustainable future for generations to come.
In 2022, Ecologi visited the planting site and witnessed the incredible dedication of the Eden team. From hand-labeling every seedling to carefully watering new trees, the love and labor behind this reforestation effort is real — and it’s working. Some trees planted just 7 months earlier were already towering over 6 feet tall!
This project is part of a global climate solution known as Temperate Forest Restoration, ranked #15 in the world’s top climate actions by Drawdown.org. As global temperatures rise and droughts become more frequent, reforesting these key areas has become more urgent than ever.
Ali + Tings proudly donates to Ecologi to support global reforestation and help combat climate change.
Together, we’re growing a greener, cleaner future for our little ones
